- Black River Gorges National Park

1. Le Morne Brabant
Hiking Le Morne Brabant means standing on a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic mountain was once a place of refuge for enslaved people.
It has a tragic history. It is highly recommended that you read it to learn more about the history of Mauritius, including the slavery era.
Le Morne hiking is a challenge. You will find some flat areas, but you will also need to use your hands to hold onto ropes at specific points.
You won’t regret it, no matter how often you stop to take a break or fall. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view. It is like something out of this universe – or better yet… soul food.
No entry fee is required for the UNESCO World Heritage Site, but you must fill out the visitors’ book (for safety). It is possible to hire a local guide to learn more about the history of this site.
You will spend around three hours on the trek, stopping for some photos and taking in the breathtaking views.
There are no words to describe the view from the summit! You can hike up to the summit and experience it for yourself! [Is Mauritius suitable for tourists?]
2. Île aux Cerfs
You will recognize the images of the Ile aux Cerfs Golf Course even if you can’t place Mauritius. You see, it’s an island. The water on the island is aquamarine, and it’s a stunning color.
Most pictures of the island you see in publicity shots were taken from the air. You can see the island from above.
You can’t see the ocean from the golf course. The Indian Ocean is only visible on a few holes and doesn’t come into play.
This Bernhard Langer-designed course has some memorable features.
It is a tight course. If you leave the fairways, you’re in the thick jungle or mangrove swamp on the front 9. The course is intimidating, with many holes having carried over 200 yards. Langer loves a dogleg.
Second, you’ll remember the tiny greens. Bernhard Langer is clearly trying to eliminate the possibility of three-putting by making his greens as tiny as possible. [Is Mauritius suitable for tourists?]

The Black River Gorges National Park, the largest and only one in Mauritius’ island nation is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife and tropical forests. The park is a magnet for tourists passionate about nature and adventure.
Before 1994, the area was a hunting ground. It was declared a National Park by the President of Mauritius in 1994.
It is situated in the Champagne plains, on the southern-western side of Mauritius. The park covers an area of 6,700 hectares, which is 5% of Mauritius. It includes lowland forests, heath, and further uphill forests.

The main resort is reached by a wooden boardwalk that crosses sand and leads to a beachfront pool with sun loungers under thatched parasols. The area is beautiful but can be a bit crowded.
The catamaran can be used to travel to the northern islands to swim, snorkel and even have a barbecue on board.

6. Casela Nature Parks
Giraffes along the route. We understand the park aims to make money, but the safari was dull, and we would not do it again.
While we were happy to see deer and beautiful zebras, we expected to also see elephants and other lions. The highlight of my trip was feeding the giraffes.
We ordered Mauritian Fritters, Samosas and noodles. The delicious homemade iced teas with watermelon, peach, and other fruits. You can ride the rollercoaster for free with every Nature Park purchase.
It was possible to book online in advance. Still, I chose to wait until I arrived to better understand what activities I wanted to participate in.
Casela Nature Park has many activities, including ziplining, quad-biking, walking with lions and feeding animals. [Is Mauritius suitable for tourists?]
